Naming: the name of your company or product, chosen with judgement

A name that’s easy to say, remember and find, designed for your business.

Choosing a name often drags on for weeks: endless lists, opinions from relatives, names that already exist or that nobody knows how to spell. And when there finally is one, it turns out the domain is taken.

Naming (creating names) is the process of finding that name with a method. We start from your business, your audience and what you want to convey, explore different creative directions and present reasoned proposals, with a shortlist (a short list of finalists) and a basic domain availability check.

It’s useful if you are about to set up a company, launch a product or open a new business line and don’t yet have a name, or if the one you have causes confusion, is too similar to others or doesn’t fit what you sell. A good name makes everything that follows easier: logo, website, social media and word of mouth.

  1. Briefing

We talk about your business, your audience, your competitors and what you want to convey. A briefing is the summary of everything we need to know before creating.

  2. Creative exploration

We work on several directions: descriptive, evocative, invented or combined names, depending on what best fits your strategy.

  3. Proposals and shortlist

We present the proposals, explaining the reasoning behind each one, and select the finalists with you.

  4. Domain check

We carry out a basic check of whether the finalists’ web domains are available, so you can decide with information.

  • Initial briefing on your business, audience and goals.
  • Name proposals, explained and reasoned.
  • Shortlist of finalist names.
  • Basic domain availability check for the finalists.

  • Trademark registration, legal search of registered trademarks and legal advice.
  • Purchase of the domain.
  • Checking social media usernames and company names in the business register.
  • Logo design and visual identity: included in Full Branding.
  • Slogan: available as an additional service.

Imagine two partners about to open a speciality coffee shop in Madrid. They have the premises and the menu, but have been arguing about the name for weeks.

Before

Every name they like already exists, has its domain taken or doesn’t convince one of them. The opening is getting closer, and the logo, website and sign are on hold.

After

They receive proposals with a clear logic, choose between a few finalists with the domain checked and consult a professional about registration. Now they can start on the identity.

  • A name consistent with what you sell and the client you are targeting.
  • You decide with arguments, not just personal taste.
  • You avoid discovering too late that the domain for your favourite name isn’t available.
  • You unblock the rest of the launch: logo, website and social media.

  • It can cut the weeks of discussion and unstructured searching.
  • It avoids having to change your name later, with everything that means for redoing materials.

  • Document of name proposals with their reasoning.
  • Final shortlist of names.
  • Result of the basic domain check.

Do you guarantee I can register the name?

No. We carry out a basic domain check, but trademark registration and legal searches are not included. Before using it, consult a specialised professional.

What if I don’t like any of the proposals?

That’s why we start with a detailed briefing and work on the shortlist with you. Your comments on the first proposals help us refine the direction.

Can I hire naming together with branding?

Yes, and it’s the most natural option. Naming is added as an additional service to Full Branding or Branding + Digital Launch, and the chosen name goes straight into the brand strategy.

Does it work for a product rather than the company?

Yes. The process is the same for a company, a product, a service or a business line.
